Newsletter: April 10, 2008

Welcome back to the Minnick Web Services Newsletter!

It's been a busy last few months for us, and I wanted to take a few minutes to update all of you on what we've been doing. Here are a few of the more notable things.

1. myGDC for the Game Developer Conference
The Game Developer Conference is the world's largest professionals-only game industry event. Minnick Web Services was hired to create a professional social networking environment where registered attendees to the conference could interact with each other before, during, and after the conference.

Using a combination of third-party, open source, and custom-built software, we created a MySpace-like site in under 3 months. The site was a huge success and currently has over 5,000 registered users. You can take a peek at http://mygdc.gdconf.com

2. myESC for the Embedded Systems Conference
Using the technology we developed for the Game Developer Conference, we launched a 2nd professional social networking site this spring for the Embedded Systems Conference (April 14 – 18, 2008). myESC features most of the same functionality as myGDC (personal profile, 'friends', private messaging, forums, and image uploading). In addition, we created a custom module for allowing conference attendees to view and download documents related to conference sessions they can attend.

MyESC is located at http://myesc.techinsightsevents.com/

3. WPA Conference
In late April, we'll be headed to LA for the Western Publications Association Conference. As sponsors of the event, we are able to offer our clients a 30% discount when registering for the conference. Just register and indicate on the registration form that you are a Minnick Web Services client, and the WPA will take the discount when registration is received.

4. InternetEvolution.com adds Chris Minnick as an Expert Contributor
I am now a regular contributor to InternetEvolution.com, a new Web site from United Business Media that explores, analyzes, and opens up discussion about the future of the internet. Visit the site at: www.internetevolution.com, or just view my columns at: http://www.internetevolution.com/archives.asp?section_id=544

5. MWS Capabilities & Technologies Fact Sheet
Early this year, the MWS staff took an hour away from their busy days to get together in the conference room and write down on whiteboards a comprehensive list of the kinds of projects we're working on, have worked on in the past, and have the ability to work on. It overflowed from the whiteboards onto the office windows and beyond. (Don't worry, the windows are okay - it was easy to remove the dry-erase marker writing from them.) The result is the "Capabilities & Technologies Fact Sheet", which you can find at http://www.minnickweb.com/services/factsheet.html

6. New Office
Back in November, we packed up the two office suites we had been occupying since April 2003 and moved into a larger office space on P Street in midtown Sacramento. You can read more about it, and see some photos, at: http://www.minnickweb.com/hq/

We're going to try to send out newsletters on a bit more regular basis going forward. I expect that future newsletters will contain a mix of advice, news, and of course marketing. I hope you find these useful. Please let me know if you have any questions or if there are any topics you'd like to see covered in an upcoming newsletter.

Thanks!
-Chris
